Super Bowl XLV – February 6-7th

Members of The American Club of Sweden are invited to a Super Bowl celebration at the new American Diner in Sweden, at the U.S. Embassy. Doors open at 22.30 on Sunday night, February 6th, with festivities lasting until approximately 04.00 Monday morning. See email sent to Members on January 27th at approximately 16.00.

Guided Walk in Djurgården

Sara Borgström (www.urec.info), an authorized city nature guide and environmental researcher, will guide you in this magnificent milieu where human activities – from ancient monasteries, the royal fashion of the day and the dawn of Swedish research into modern nature conservation – have shaped today’s landscape. The park is an asset for citizens but also under constant pressure from urban development. Join Sara for a fascinating walk and learn more.

The tour starts from subway station Universitet at 13.00. Those who want may finish with afternoon coffee at the café Skafferiet (skafferiet.eu/) at the Stora Skuggan 4H farm. Participants pay for their own food and drink.

Homecoming Weekend Activities – October 2009

When most Americans hear the word “homecoming”, we often think of high school or college days when alumni are invited back in the autumn, to participate in a series of school-based activities (which nearly always include a big football game).

The American Club of Sweden is happy to announce its own version of homecoming, with an offering of exciting events spread over four days!

Third Thursday networking evening, this month in cooperation with U.S. Embassy Sweden and the Swedish office of The Fulbright Commission

Come join us for our monthly Third Thursday and mingle with the Fulbright community, US Embassy representatives and our usual healthy crowd (over 50 last month!) of members and guests.

At October’s mingle, we will welcome recently-landed Americans, Swedes who have just returned from US studies, as well as Swedes who are just entering the Fulbright Program for departure to the US next year.

Unfortunately, Ambassador Matthew Barzun has been called away last-minute on other business so will be unable to join us Thursday, as earlier promoted. We look forward to meeting him at another event soon.

Gospel Brunch at HardRock Cafe – 17 October 2009

Consensus Gospel Choir, under director Sun Erkensten and including American Club board member Germaine Thomas, will be performing during the HardRock brunch on October 17th, 2009. HardRock will be donating a portion of the brunch proceeds to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation so we look forward to filling the place with American Club members, friends and guests. This event will be held as part of HardRock’s Pinktober month of fundraising for cancer research.

2009 Annual Meeting – 04 June 2009

Members of The American Club of Sweden are invited to our Club’s Annual Meeting to present last year’s results, elect a new Board of Directors and conduct other Club business. The Meeting is open to Club Members in good standing, is free of charge and will be held in the conference room on the lower level of Volvo Cars’ Showroom. Advanced reservations are required per the instructions below. This notice of the Annual Meeting has been sent in compliance with the Club bylaws, and is also available on our website at www.americanclub.se.

Members and Guests are invited to join us for a unique opportunity to “Rock!” during Bruce Springsteen’s Stockholm tour that week. Photographer Jan M. Lundahl has followed Springsteen tours for nine years, and is holding his first-ever Stockholm exhibition at Volvo’s Showroom, to coincide with The Boss’ concert at Globen.

With Springsteen songs in the background, Members and Guests at American Club Rocks! will be treated to Jan’s stories over a welcome drink, before he dashes off to shoot the evening’s concert. We will then enjoy a warm and sunny (?) Stockholm evening on the terrace overlooking Kungsträdgården, a light dinner buffet and the company of Club Members and Guests. A cash bar will also be available.

This will be an excellent opportunity for Members to introduce friends and colleagues to The American Club of Sweden, and for those considering membership to meet our Members and new Board of Directors!
