According to the UK’s Carbon Brief, there are perhaps four years left to achieve the 1.5°C carbon budget, the next U.S. presidential term of office. There is no scenario to meet this budget if U.S. action is not aggressively pursued. There are only a handful of American states significantly larger than Sweden, so the Swedish experience is very relevant – energy is a state/regional issue, not federal. The bottom line is that we in the US must in the next decade come close to matching what Swedes have achieved over many decades. Can we do it? Will we? Is there anything in the Swedish experience that can help speed up our response at the city, state and regional level – even if the new administration fails to lead? What can we as Americans do from here?
