Transcending Time/Skillinge möter Harlem
Transcending Time is the English title for Karin Seastone's photography exhibit in Skillinge, the part of Skåne known affectionately as Österlen. Its Swedish title "Skillinge Möter Harlem - Nu & Då" gives a clue that this is not ordinary. Karin's mormor was born in Skillinge and in 2005 Karin met a second cousin in Skillinge through a photo and returned there many times. In 2013 that cousin wrote to Karin who lives in New York, that another cousin, Maria Lancing, was having an exhibit at the Swedish Church in New York. Karin invited her to dinner and a walk through Harlem, where they saw a photography exhibit of the famous Gordon Parks which Maria remembered from the 1968 in LIFE magazine. Their worlds merged and transcended over time. In her exhibit Karin traces her heritage in Skillinge to 1700s. Her exhibit is both Skillinge and Harlem and the Swedes are so excited to see both. Karin is a 50-year Vasa member of Arlington Lodge No. 62 and now spends her summers in Sweden. The exhibit is in Lancing Galleri in Skillinge.
