International Theatre Festival – 9th – 12th May 2008

International theatre festival comes to Stockholm for first time

For the first time since its inception more than 30 years ago, th

Festival of European Anglophone Theatrical Societies (FEATS) is coming to Stockholm. Amateur theatre companies from twelve countries across Europe will compete in English for prestigious titles such as Best Production, Best Actor and Best Actress from May 9th – 12th at Diesel Verkstaden in Sickla, Nacka.

For 20 years, the Stockholm Players, the oldest English language theatre group in Sweden, has been taking part in the Festival, frequently winning prestigious awards. This year they act as hosts to the twelve competing groups from Europe.

So what do you get if you come along to the festival? You have the chance to see up to twelve one-act plays in English, three per night. During the day you can also take part in our fringe festival which is packed with workshops, plays, poetry reading and more.

The Stockholm Players are very honoured that The British Ambassador to Sweden, HMA Andrew Mitchell, has agreed to be the patron of the festival. Andrew was himself previously a member of one of the competing groups from Germany. The Cultural Commissioner (kulturborgarrådet) to the City of Stockholm, Madeleine Sjöstedt, will also patron the festival.

More on The Stockholm Players (www.stockholmplayers.se)
With roots in the 1920’s, the Stockholm Players is the oldest English language theatre group in Sweden. In addition to staging several productions a year, the Stockholm Players runs an ongoing programme of informal play readings, theatre visits, improvisations, cabarets, workshops and other theatre-related activities. The company’s members are drawn from various walks of life. However, they all have one common denominator – their love of the English theatre.
